Uriel Septim VII
From OblivioWiki
Uriel Septim VII is/was the Emperor of Tamriel and was the son of Pelagius IV, the husband of Caula Voria and twenty-first emperor of the Septim dynasty. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion opens at the very end of Uriel VII's reign, shortly following the triple assassination of his grown sons Geldall, Enman and Ebel. Having been advised by his councilors to go into hiding, he attempts to flee the Imperial City through a secret underground tunnel which passes through the player's prison cell. There he meets you, the player, and here, he invites the player to join his entourage and asks him or her to find his illegitimate son and bring him to the palace to be crowned emperor. He then gives you the main objective of bringing the Amulet of Kings to Jauffre at Weynon Priory and to "Close shut the jaws of Oblivion". Jauffre later instructs the player to find the Emperor's illegitimate son, the only remaining heir to the Imperial throne.
Uriel anticipated his death, and seemed to accept it, saying that it was the work of Fate. He also seems very religious, and makes numerous references to the Nine Divines. The Emperor is eventually assassinated by unknown forces, later identified as The Mythic Dawn, a daedric cult who is attempting to usher in a new era through radical means. Because the emperor is a living seal keeping the lands of Tamriel separate from the hellish planes of Oblivion, his death opened gateways between these worlds and allowed Daedra, the demonic overlords of Oblivion, free access to Tamriel.
[edit] Roles in other games of The Elder Scrolls series
Though hardly ever seen, Uriel Septim's guiding hand can be seen in all of the Elder Scrolls games.
[edit] The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind
As revealed early in the game (as soon as you leave the ship that brought you to Vvardenfell) that Uriel Septim VII himself has signed the order to bring you to Vvardenfell and release you.
