Morrowind province
Morrowind province

The Imperial Province of Morrowind is the native homeland of the Dark Elves. It was once also called Resdayn or Velothi in elven tongues, especially before Imperial rule.

[edit] Geographic Regions

The majority of the province and its population is directly part of the continent of Tamriel, with the rest scattered on islands, the largest of which is known as Vvardenfell.

[edit] Major Cities

  • Mournhold – The capital of Morrowind, home of Almalexia of the Tribunal. The city is large and circular in shape with walls and many towers lining the inner and outer defenses of the city, which is separated into five main districts: The Plaza Brindsi Dorom, The Great Bazaar, Godsreach, The Temple District, and the Mournhold Palace. Underneath the city also exists an extensive network of sewers and ruins both Dwemer and Dunmer in origin from the days of the first and second eras.
  • Vivec – One of the largest cities in Morrowind, and the largest of Vvardenfell island, home of Vivec of the Tribunal. The city is divided into nine cantons, all of which are built on the water, sunk right into the bedrock, and all extend at least three or four stories above the water level. The main cantons are the Foreign Quarters, the Hlaalu Canton, the Redoran Canton, the Arena, the Telvanni Canton, the St. Olms Canton, the St. Delyn Canton, the Temple Canton, and the Palace which houses Vivec himself.
  • Necrom – The City of the Dead, this ancient dark elven city was built to perpetuate ancient dark elven tradition of ancestor worship. Many dark elves from across the province and likely the whole of Tamriel come here to bury their loved ones in funerals processions that can last weeks and even months.

[edit] History

Originally there were two elven races inhabiting Morrowind: The Chimer and the Dwemer.

[edit] Religion

Morrowind officially currently follows the Tribunal. The Tribunal is made of three deities known as Vivec, Almalexia, and Sotha Sil. Each deity has their own city named after them (Vivec-Vivec, Almalexia-Mournhold, Sotha Sil-The mysterious clockwork city). The various ashlander tribes scattered around the Island of Vvardenfell do not follow the Tribunal or any of its doctrines but cling to their ancient form of ancestor worship which also involves Daedra worship, much like their Chimer ancestors of the First Era.

[edit] Morrowind in Oblivion

Morrowind is inaccessible in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. However, there is a glitch that lets you enter Morrowind, but there is nothing but wilderness and grass lands, as well as an experimental French mod used to run Morrowind through Oblivion's proccesor, but this "MorrOblivion" project Skingrad Tower (amoung other names) has been all but crushed by Bethesda's claims of copywrite infringments. The exact reasons for this are not known since MorrOblivion requires both games to run although a sizable portion of Morrowind does not belong to Bethesda, and there is, of course, the bad example and image it would set, in some people's eyes, to condone such a mod.
